The Cycle Derby Sportive
2014 is set to be a massive year for cycling in the UK with the start of the Tour de France in Yorkshire. We have the reigning champion amongst our ranks (Chris Froome of Team SKY) and he has a great chance to defend his crown by the time the riders get to the Champs Elysee in August.
What many people don’t know is that there is a brand new Velodrome about to open in Derby. It is only the 3rd purpose built velodrome in England after the Olympic velodrome in London and Manchester. It is also ideally located in the middle of the country with great access routes and so close to the Peak District it is set to become a cycling Mecca. So much so, that the new tagline is Derby – The Cycling City.
To launch the opening of the new velodrome we have teamed up with Cycle Derby to create the Cycle Derby Sportive. Taking place on 21st September 2014 with the start and finish at the Derby Arena, near Pride Park, there are 3 routes to choose from. Depending on your energy levels you can opt for the 40km, 80km or 160kms routes. It is set to be a great day out for the whole family and the whole day is in support of MacMillan Cancer Support.
